Mission & Vision

The mission of the TSGC is to advocate for the genetic counseling profession and genetic counseling services in Texas by expanding awareness of the profession, promoting genetic education, increasing patient access to genetic services, and providing genetic resources.

The vision of the TSGC is to be the leading advocate for the genetic counseling profession, genetic services and genetic education for the state of Texas.

Strategic Plan 2023-2025

i. Supporting Professional Growth

  1. Lead the efforts to enact genetic counselor state licensure

  2. Evaluate genetic counselor billing and reimbursement in Texas and engage health systems and payers to optimize coverage and access

  3. Advocate for policies that support patient access to genetic counseling and genetic services

ii. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

  1. Promote the recruitment of a diverse genetic counselor workforce in Texas

  2. Collaborate with partner organizations to increase access to genetic services among underrepresented populations

  3. Implement metrics for evaluating diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts within the organization

  4. Establish policies and practices that support a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion with the organization

iii. Education

  1. Serve as a thought leader on genetic counseling and genetic services in the state of Texas

  2. Develop and refine a robust compendium of genetic counseling practice resources

  3. Provide continuing education opportunities for genetic counselors and non-genetics providers in Texas

iv. Community Building

  1. Foster connections among genetic counselors across the state by creating spaces for dialogue and shared learning

  2. Develop and strengthen relationships with professional organizations with synergistic goals of delivering high quality patient care and promoting access to genetic services

  3. Support the creation of educational tools and opportunities for prospective genetic counseling students

  4. Provide a variety of opportunities for volunteering within the organization that strengthen our community and provide support to growing leaders
