Texas Transcript: A New Chapter

When discussions about the future of the Texas Transcript unfolded, we focused on ideas that would meet our members where they are. With this, a plan for a new platform was born! One that would allow our members to easily navigate between topics and articles of interest, one that would bring you (as our reader!) new content consistently – a future path forged.

Despite this change, our goals for the Texas Transcript remain the same. From providing updates on conferences to genetic counselor spotlights and beyond, we want to keep you informed of all the important work surrounding genetic counseling in Texas.

With this new chapter, we want YOU to be involved every step of the way. What kind of topics interest you? What pieces do you like/dislike to read? What genetic counselor/organization should be highlighted? We are all ears to any and all feedback as we embark on this new path forward.

The Texas Transcript is run by a small but mighty team. We are eagerly asking GCs to help us keep a pulse on all that is happening across our great state (and emailing us about it!). If you’re looking for a shorter commitment, we would love for you to be a guest writer or suggest a topic! If you’re wanting to get more involved with TSGC and help generate content/article ideas, we would love for you to join our team!

Thank you for the opportunity to serve the TSGC community through this new platform - we are so excited to hear your feedback! Reach us at: TheTexasTranscript@gmail.com

Texas Transcript Team Introductions

Rachel Franciskovich

Rachel joined the Texas Transcript team a little over a year ago, just before the launch of the new platform!  She is a pediatric genetic counselor in Houston and also the Research Coordinator for the Baylor Genetic Counseling Program. At work, you can expect to find Rachel wearing many hats for many different projects which helps give her unique perspectives and individuals to work with when it comes to stories for the Texas Transcript. In her free time, you can find Rachel hanging with her husband and their daughter, likely watching one of the many soccer games her husband plays and coaches!

Mary Grace Roden

Mary Grace is the most recent addition to the Texas Transcript team, as she was inspired to join after this year’s AEC! Mary Grace is a cancer genetic counselor at UT Southwestern in Dallas, TX. In addition to clinical care and Texas Transcript, she is involved in research focused on hereditary gastric cancer and genetic counseling assistant mentorship. Outside of work, Mary Grace loves to spend time with family, friends, and her dog!

Sara Mokhtary

Sara has been with the Texas Transcript since Fall of 2021. She absolutely loves being on this team, as it allows her to work alongside GCs across the state! She moved to Texas in 2019 and currently works as a Regional Genetics Program Coordinator at Texas Oncology in San Antonio. Sara is currently the Vice President of TSGC, and feels extremely grateful to witness and support the growth of the GC community in Texas. In her free time, she loves salsa and bachata dancing, reading, and day-tripping with her boyfriend.
