Vice President's Corner - Sara Mokhtary

Happy Summer TSGC members! I am so humbled to be writing my first Vice President’s Corner for the launch of the new Texas Transcript platform. One of my first tasks as VP was to help assemble the slides for our AEC Business Meeting. Typically, this meeting has followed the closing remarks at the AEC, when many of the attendees are traveling back home (or charging their social battery after a full day of mingling!) But after seeing the slides from each of our eight TSGC committees, I hoped we could reach a wider audience and spotlight the amazing achievements of our committee chairs. If you attended the AEC, we hope you liked having the business meeting earlier in the day! If you missed us in Dallas, no need to worry - over the next few months, we’ll be highlighting each of our eight committees, and the volunteers that support them.

First up is the Texas Transcript committee! Check out the feature of our small (but mighty) team, HERE. It’s such a treat to bring back the Texas Transcript in this new, innovative way. We hope our members love it and we can’t wait to hear your feedback!

In other news, we recently announced a small change to our TSGC board member structure, affecting the Vice President role. Moving forward, we have replaced the VP role with the role of “President-elect”, to make leadership opportunities more accessible within the organization. Moving forward, elected individuals will have a 3 year term (President-Elect to President to Past President). We hope the lesser three year term-limit encourages TSGC members to consider applying for these leadership roles! I am incredibly excited to continue working alongside John this year, and step into the President role next year (big shoes to fill!).

When I joined the TSGC in 2019 after moving to Texas, I immediately observed the close-knit community within this organization. It is this community that I hope to nurture as President-Elect. My biggest ask of all of you is to take a few minutes to answer our Needs Assessment when it is sent out this month! Your voice matters to me, the board, and to this organization. We are all ears to how we can best support GCs in TX.

As John mentioned, it’s already been a BIG year for TSGC! A great AEC and huge strides for our licensure bill. I can’t wait to see what is in store for the rest of the year (and to share it with you via this new medium!)

Wishing everyone a quick return to sweater weather,

Sara
